A supermarket worker has won a brand new Cheval Liberte horse trailer after paying £1 for a raffle ticket.

The trailer was originally a prize in Harry Hall’s Golden Ticket draw on 4 May 2021, but it was never claimed by the winner despite Harry Hall repeatedly urging customers to check their tickets.

When the trailer remained unclaimed 30 days later — the cut-off date for claiming a prize — a raffle was set up.

Asda employee Susan Campbell, from Aberdeen, is the lucky winner of the trailer, which comes with a one-year Harry Hall trailer insurance policy and is worth £6,644..

“I’m so shocked! I’ve not won anything like this before and I wasn’t thinking about winning, it was just nice to donate to charity,” said Susan. “I didn’t expect to win a brand new trailer. It’s brilliant!”

Susan has five young horses and enjoys in-hand showing.

“My horsebox was becoming too expensive to run and getting out to shows again was looking unlikely, so this is a real help,” she added.

“I work shifts for Asda, picking home shopping deliveries between 3am and 9am, which has been really busy with the increase in home deliveries during the pandemic. I finish my shift and then see to the horses before heading home to look after four cats and my husband of 28 years, Michael.

“Winning this trailer means I can’t wait to hit the show ring again. I’m really looking forward to the showing season now. I had to try really hard not to cry when the girls at Harry Hall rang to tell me the news.”

The raffle also raised more than £9,000 for Harry Hall’s charity partners: The Horse Trust, Brooke and Riding for the Disabled Association.

“The Horse Trust is absolutely thrilled and overwhelmed by the generosity and the response to Harry Hall’s raffle. This is such a huge amount of money and will make the world of difference to our horses’ lives’” said Alice Moran from The Horse Trust.

Chris Wainwright, chief executive of Brooke, Action for Working Horses and Donkeys, added: “Thank you to Harry Hall and everyone that bought a ticket. It’s due to support like this that we’re able to continue our vital work improving equine welfare around the world.”

Randip Thompson, director of fundraising for The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), said: “The funding will be invaluable in helping us to continue the work of RDA and making a difference for our disabled riders.”
