The equestrian world has united to help donate and transport supplies to Poland for those fleeing Ukraine.
Louenna Hood, daughter of legendary showman Allister, and agricultural supplier Philip Judge have teamed up to help people escaping the Russian invasion.
Supplies for children and their families have filled a 20ft container, and a lorry with two of these containers will leave Newmarket on tomorrow (6 March), to arrive in Poland by Tuesday (8 March).
Renowned nanny and maternity nurse Loenna told Your Horse she had been been inundated with donations and have now stopped taking items as they have enough for both containers, plus a warehouse full of goods.
They are sending out essentials for families like Sudocrem, nappies, baby wipes and clothes. A Justgiving page is also open for members of the public to make financial donations and more than £40,000 has been raised.
“The generosity has been absolutely incredible,” she said on Friday. “What were seeing on the news its horrifying. It’s shocking, innocent children should not be treated like this.
“I have a contact in Poland and when I asked Philip if he could assist us he didn’t hesitate to offer his help. What people have donated has brought us to tears on many occasions, the cuddly toys, the thermal clothes, the duvets, travel cots, the list is endless.
“Loads of equestrians have donated to the Justgiving page too and I’ve had several horsey people helping me today. The Woods family have sponsored the fuel and ferry crossing and the HOYS lorry was full to brim thanks to Sandy Anderson.
“Mum and Dad [Allister and Anne Hood] have been here, and Olly, every night doing horses and loading the container until late into the evening.
“I have had about three house sleep since we started this appeal,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who has made this happen in such a short amount of time.”
