A rider has paid tribute to her “horse of a lifetime” who passed away last month (14 June) in a road accident.
Laura Wilson owned 11-year-old Reggy for seven years. She bought the 15hh skewbald cob with two wall eyes as an unhandled youngster.
Reggy developed from a “nervous little guy” to a talented all-rounder, enjoying everything from fun rides and cross-country to dressage and showing. The pair had recently qualified for the Trailblazers Championships in dressage.
“We did everything together,” Shrewsbury-based Laura told Your Horse. “Every time we went out he came home with rosettes.”
Laura described Reggy as a friendly and sociable horse who was popular with all those who knew him.
“Since losing him I can’t get over the amount of people he touched,” she said. “He was absolutely part of the family and was like my first born child. I have a two-year-old girl and he was smitten with her, he was absolutely golden.”
Reggy was put to sleep due to the severity of his injuries following the road incident, which is currently under police investigation.
Laura suffered concussion and will need physiotherapy for back pain, but said she “would have taken a broken leg over Reggy any day”.
“I am so lucky to be alive, he saved my life,” she added.
