“Come and view some of the best equestrian art the UK has to offer in this beautiful gallery,” said a spokesman for the Society of Equestrian Artists. “As well as beautiful art to peruse and buy, […] this is the home of the fascinating Museum of the Horse.”

The Museum of the Horse is an extensive collection of all things equestrian, from 600BC to today. The museum is housed in the upstairs rooms of the 18th century gallery, which was once a coaching inn.

The Society of Equestrian Artists was created in 1979 by 10 founding members under the chairmanship of Norman Hoad, a notable equestrian and aviation artist. It aims to promote the practice of equestrian painting and sculpture and the public appreciation of this art. It runs workshops and lectures around the country

Since the society’s inception, its principal exhibition for members’ work has been the annual exhibition.
