A rider who borrowed a saddle, bridle and bit for the qualifier is among the Pony Club members heading to Your Horse Live later this week for the Search For a Star (SFAS) Championships.
Surrey-based Helena Kitchener secured her golden ticket for the Pony Club SFAS Open Championships with Cavan Mick (Mickey) at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre. Helena and Mickey also competed in tetrathlon for the Southern England team and qualified for the Horse of the Year Show SFAS finals. Helena is a member of the Mid Surrey branch.
Helena will be up against Woodland Hunt branch member Isobel Radford Jones and Battlestown Jenny (TuTu), from London. The Radford-Jones family had owned TuTu for just a week when they qualified at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre.
TuTu was originally bred for showing and then she spent some time eventing.
Joining the line up is Phantoms Masquerade (Merlin), ridden by Grace Adams from West Yorkshire. Ryburn Pony Club member Grace and Merlin “do everything together”. When Grace outgrows Merlin she plans to break him to harness. They qualified at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre.
Jessica Ross and Rooan De Goariva will also be hoping to impress the judges at Your Horse Live. The Northamptonshire-based rider has owned Rooan De Goarive for four years and attends the Grafton Hunt
branch.
The pair compete in side saddle classes and Jessica won the Side Saddle Newcomers Rider of the Year award last year. They also enjoy unaffiliated eventing and are planning to take part in some working hunter pony classes. They qualified at Vale View Equestrian Centre.
Completing the finalists is Rosedust Class Act, ridden by Aaliyah Watson from Aberdeenshire. Welsh section B, Rosedust Class Act and Aaliyah have also qualified for the ridden mountain and moorland SFAS championship.
Aaliyah is also a finalist in the in-hand plaited pony championship with her pony, Romano Small Talk.
Aaliyah is a member of the Deveron Pony Club and she competes in showing and jumping. She and Rosedust Class Act qualified at Netherton Equestrian Centre.
