A new resource has been launched to provide information and advice for both police officers and members of the public on equine related matters, including crime prevention.
Operation Gallop has been set up by the national Equine Priority Delivery Group (PDG), which encompasses representatives from police force areas around the United Kingdom and leading equine organisations, and links into the National Rural Crime Unit (NRCU).
The scheme includes a new website which features a blog with incidents and relevant news items from around the UK. It has a separate police section that includes a training film on key areas of equine crime and other information to assist them in their work.
Operation Gallop also has social media pages on Facebook and X
“Operation Gallop is a true partnership with agencies working together to tackle all aspects of equine crime and welfare,” said National Equine lead for the PDG and Operation Gallop, Chief Inspector Korine Bishop from Hampshire Police. “We thank NEWC for their support in funding the new website and the many people and organisations that have helped us set this up to help all those that have horses or are linked to them in some way.”
Ruth Court, Vice Chair of NEWC added: “The National Equine Welfare Council was more than happy to support this ground-breaking initiative, which fits perfectly with our own aims of improving equine welfare through collaboration, information sharing and partnership working.
“I am confident the work of this group will make a lasting difference to equines, their owners and the wider public across the UK.”
