Showjumper John Whitaker is sharing his story in a book entitled ‘John Whitaker – the legend’ and it will be available to buy at Your Horse Live (8-10 November).

The biography, which has been written by Sarah Peacocke, takes an in-depth look at John’s life and incredible career and delves into his relationships with horses such as Milton, Ryan’s Son and Gammon.

From doing the milk round and riding his pony bareback to school to representing his country at multiple championships, the biography reveals John’s personality, motivation and training methods.

About John Whitaker

John’s extraordinary career has spanned six decades and includes six Olympic Games, four World Equestrian Games, three World Championships and more than 200 Nations Cup appearances for Great Britain.

He is well-known for his relationship with Milton, the flying grey, who was the first horse to win £1 million in prize money on the showjumping circuit.

The pair won numerous titles together, including the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final on two occasions and several World and European team and individual medals.

With Ryan’s Son, John won Olympic silver in Los Angeles and won the Hickstead Derby for the first time. He went on to claim three more victories at the Sussex venue, including in 1998 on Gammon.

The Yorkshireman, who is now 69, is from one of sport’s most successful families. His brothers Michael and Stephen, children Louise, Joanne and Robert, plus many nieces and nephews, have all showjumped at elite level and represented Great Britain on numerous occasions.
