The British Racing School has unveiled its latest programme, a Level 2 Qualification in Racehorse Care and Exercise for 16-18-year-olds.
As part of the two-year course, students will gain hands on experience of working with and riding the 70 racehorses that live at the school in Newmarket.
The course will also equip students with an understanding of racehorse health and welfare, stable management and racing knowledge with the aim of giving them all the skills and confidence required to pursue a career at a racing yard.
The programme is free to attend, non-residential and will accept its first cohort of students in September.
‘Support the next generation’
“We are excited to offer this new qualification for young people aged 16-18 who are looking to pursue a career with horses,” said Andrew Braithwaite, chief executive of the British Racing School.
“The new course will give students the skills and experience they need to excel in the sport, whilst allowing them to continue to live at home and attend the school on a day basis.
“With an emphasis on practical skills and real-world application, the Level 2 course is designed to support the next generation of racing professionals and help them become a key part of this dynamic industry.”
In the first year, students will work towards their Level 1 Diploma in Racehorse Care. They will be required to spend three days a week at the British Racing School and one day a week on work experience.
In the second year, students will either work towards their Level 2 Diploma in Racehorse Care and Exercise or begin an apprenticeship at a racing yard.
