The British Racing School in Newmarket has announced that Her Majesty The Queen has become their Royal Patron.

HM The Queen has a long association with British horseracing and equestrianism and visited the British Racing School in 2023 as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

Schematic, a racehorse that HM The Queen owns together with His Majesty The King, currently resides at the school and is used to train the next generation of racing professionals.

“We are honoured that Her Majesty has accepted our invitation to become Patron of the British Racing School,” said Andrew Braithwaite, chief executive of the British Racing School.

‘Hugely commited’

“The Queen is hugely committed to supporting British racing and to ensuring that young people have the opportunity to experience the life-changing benefits of working with and riding horses and are able to access the brilliant careers within racing.

“We are incredibly lucky and proud to have Her Majesty’s support.”

Over the past 42 years the British Racing School has trained thousands of young people wanting to pursue a career in the sport. Its Level 2 Diploma for 16-25-year-olds has proved extremely popular and it has recently launched a Level 2 Qualification in Racehorse Care and Exercise for 16-18-year-olds

HM The Queen is also a patron of The Jockey Club, the National Horseracing Museum, The National Stud, The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association and York Racecourse.

HM The King officially opened the school in 1983 when he was the HRH The Prince of Wales.
