Fans of Badminton Horse Trials have been warned that scammers are posting fake links claiming to offer live coverage of the event.
The event said they had received “a large number of fake Badminton posts” on its social media pages, and urged the public to not respond, but to report such comments.
This year, the only way to watch a live stream of the event if via Badminton TV, as the BBC will not be offering red button coverage. The paid-for service includes all combinations through the three phases.
They issued a statement yesterday (4 May), and later added that they had temporarily disabled comments while they addressed the issue.
“We are receiving a large amount of fake Badminton posts on our sites,” they said. “Please do not respond to these fake livestream posts and if possible report them.
“The only way to sign up to the official Badminton TV subscription is through our website. www.badminton-horse.co.uk
“We have members of staff dedicated to remove these posts and are trying to do so as quickly as possible.”
Yesterday (4 May) Badminton also apologised for a break in the live stream of the trot up.
“We understand the disappointment caused by the break in the livestream and we are truly very sorry,” they said.
“The trot up coverage was brought to you by the company we have used for this in past years, however from tomorrow all the action is being broadcast by the same company that has delivered our BBC production.”
