BEVA Trust has almost hit the halfway mark with its project to raise £20,000 to buy 10 generators for Ukraine, thanks to the generosity of equine vets around the country.
As a part of British Equestrians for Ukraine, BEVA Trust is striving hard to help the war-torn country generate power to help care for displaced and injured horses, during enforced power cuts. During such cuts the vets, owners and carers of these horses are not only deprived of light but also hot water, equipment and sustenance, making emergency and even day-to-day veterinary care almost impossible.
“Thank you so much to each and every one of you who has donated to Power to Ukraine since we launched the campaign in February,” said BEVA Council member Alison Talbot, who is leading the project. “We’ve raised a phenomenal amount already, just short of half of our target of 20,000 at 9,987 and this is a wonderful effort.
“The next step of the project will be to source the generators and to get them sent to Ukraine in preparation for the winter ahead. They will make a real difference to both humans and equines.”
The generators have already been sourced in Germany and will be transported to a collection point in Poland. Their delivery to Ukraine will be coordinated by a Ukrainian vet who, prior to the war, used to co-ordinate educational conferences in conjunction with the BEVA Trust in Kyiv.
The Association is asking for one last surge of support to help Power for Ukraine reach their target of £20,000 to buy all ten generators before winter sets in.
“So far we can afford to buy five generators,” said Alison. “Being able to buy another five will help twice as many horses and the make the day-to-day lives of those working round the clock to care for them much more bearable. It also means we will be able to transport all ten generators from Germany in one go, which makes sense in terms of economics and logistics.
“If you haven’t yet supported our campaign, we would love you to do so. Any amount you can afford will add up to make a big difference to a country that is currently engulfed in immense hardship.”
Donations to the BEVA Trust Power To Ukraine appeal can be made via their JustGiving page here. Any surplus funds will be added to the general fund to support equids in Ukraine.
