Bishop Burton College was delighted to team up with Atkinson Action Horses for a spectacular event to raise funds to combat the devastation caused by Australia’s bushfires.
The sold out event took place on Saturday, 15 February, with 100% of the ticket price being donated to the Australian Red Cross and to WIRES – Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation.
Bishop Burton’s chief executive and principal, Bill Meredith, said: “I’m delighted we are able to support these incredibly worthwhile causes. As well as providing the venue, our staff and students volunteered alongside the Atkinson Action Horses team.
“We were amazed by the generosity of our guests, who came from across the country. They helped us to raise a staggering £11,000. It was wonderful to see them enjoying the spectacular event.”
Horse trainer and rider Ben Atkinson said: “The event itself has been fantastic and I’m overwhelmed by the amount of money we’ve been able to raise. We’re so grateful to everyone for making this event possible.”
The event featured a range of equestrian disciplines including classical dressage, liberty training and trick riding. Joining Ben in Bishop Burton Arena were Katharine Pickering, Candice Carbine, Oliver Phillips, Mia Rodley and Mikayla Jade.
As well as 100% of the ticket price going to the charities, a raffle with over £1500 worth of prizes was held at the event.
