A mission to provide shelter for rescue ponies has been given a welcome boost.
Bransby Horses is fundraising for polytunnels for its equine residents. In total the charity plans to obtain 21 tunnels for its two sites.
In total, the shelters will cost £35,700 and Bransby aims to secure these funds by the end of the year.
The fundraising has got off to a strong start thanks to an £8,000 award from the Petplan Charitable Trust (PCCT). This pledge will go towards the tunnels at Bransby’s Barlings site.
“This is a fantastic start to the campaign and goes a long way towards helping us provide the tunnels needed at Barlings,” said Fundraising Manager, Charlie McClelland.
The majority of Bransby’s residents live outside in herds all year round, so the shelters provide protection from the elements, particularly as the numbers of animals the charity takes in increases.
Bransby experienced extensive flooding in November 2019, followed soon after by the impacts of COVID-19, so Petplan’s gift was particularly welcome.
“We would like to thank Petplan Charitable Trust for their generosity and hope to be able to raise the remaining funds in the coming months,” added Charlie.
“PCCT’s mission is to promote the health and welfare of animals in the UK and beyond. We extend our thanks to PCCT and the generosity of pet owners who opt to give a small donation to the Trust when they renew their pet insurance policy with them.”
