The British Racing School and Hartpury University have joined forces to offer a three-year degree programme aimed at individuals who are working in the horseracing industry.

The BSc (Hons) Horseracing Industry degree has been designed to help those already working within the horseracing sector broaden their horizons and open opportunities for a lifelong career within the industry. It is most suited to individuals who have completed the Level 3 Diploma in Racehorse Care and Management or equivalent.

Modules of study include racehorse health and nutrition, race planning, performance analysis, and the structure and administration of the horseracing industry.

Students will complete their study during monthly weekend teaching sessions, week-long intensive courses, and self-directed home study. The degree programme will include guest lectures with industry experts as well as practical work placements.

What the degree will look like

  • Year 1 focuses on racehorse welfare and management, and the organisation of the horseracing industry.
  • Year 2 builds on academic skills with modules on thoroughbred life cycles, race planning, and performance analysis.
  • Year 3 prepares students for research projects and explores entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, and global challenges in horseracing.

“We are delighted to be offering this important qualification alongside Hartpury University for individuals wanting to develop a comprehensive knowledge of British Racing and broaden their skillset,” said Duncan Gregory, operations director at the British Racing School.

The Honours programme offers deep insight into this exciting global industry and the chance for students to expand their network and access career opportunities for them within the sport.”
