An adorable new arrival was welcomed to Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre last week (26 January).
The “huge” colt foal was born at 2am on Wednesday and the centre shared pictures of him with his mother Laggans shortly after his arrival.
Laggans and her colt are doing “really well” and the “confident” foal has enjoyed some time at grass exploring his new surroundings.
“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Laggans huge colt foal,” said a spokesman for Cotebrook. “Mum and her baby are both doing really well ”
Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre and Stud Farm has been breeding Shires for 50 years. In spring, the stud offers a Foal Watch video diary, where fans can follow the progress mares in the weeks before their foals arrive.
The centre works to preserve and promote the native breed for future generations.
The foal has already met visitors to the Cheshire centre and will no doubt be a firm favourite among staff and visitors.
His six-year-old mother, Laggan (Cotebrook Loch Laggan), was Supreme Champion Foal in 2016 and the biggest Shire foal show in the country.
Her older brother, Ben Alder, was Supreme National Champion foal and he has been National Champion Gelding as a two-year-old and a four-year-old.
All the Shire mares bred at Cotebrook are named after Scottish Lochs. Loch Laggan is a loch in Lochaber, east of Fort William and was featured in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen.
