An ambulance worker and keen equestrian has won a competition to name Dodson & Horrell’s new treats, and her handsome horse will now appear on the packaging.
Sarah Clucas from Clayton-Le-Woods, Lancashire, suggested Encouragemints as the name for the tasty offering during a visit to Bolesworth International Horse Show in July.
Sarah works for the North West Ambulance Service as an Emergency Medical Technician and has been incredibly busy over the last 18 months with the Covid-19 pandemic. She has owned her horse Alfie since June after losing her veteran gelding, Hal at the age of 23, in 2020.
Sarah and Alfie are working towards taking part in working hunter classes this year with a view to doing some Royal International and HOYS qualifiers next year.
“I was very surprised to have won the competition to name Dodson & Horrell’s new treats, I can’t believe it!” she said. “I entered at the stand at Bolesworth and forgot all about it, so I was shocked to receive the call to say that I had won.
“I came up with the name ‘Encouragemints’ as that is exactly what I use treats for with my horse, a bit of encouragement or bribery and with them being mint flavour I thought it worked well. I am sure Alfie will love the new mints and it will be great to see his face on the label!”
The low calorie, low starch and low sugar minty treat can be fed from the hand, in a bowl or from a treat ball, and come in a 4kg resealable tub (RRP £7.50).
“This was a brilliant competition, with a massive number of entries and we love the name Encouragemints, seeing Alfie on the packaging is a joy and Sarah is a really deserving winner with the amazing job she has done in her role with the North West Ambulance Service in the last few years,” said Lucy Scott, Marketing Manager at Dodson & Horrell.
