Well, here’s your chance to get a taster of what it takes to become one. The Society of Master Saddlers is running an Introductory Course in Saddle Fitting this autumn that could help you discover if this is the career for you.
The course consists of two theory lectures that will be run as webinars over afternoon and evening sessions on 26 and 27 October 2020.
This will be followed up with a one day practical course at Moulton College in Northamptonshire on 8 April 2021.
This course will cover all manner of subjects to give you an understanding of the principles of saddle fitting, including:
- Tree design and saddle construction
- Identifying faults in saddles
- Physiology of the horse’s back
- Anatomy of the horse in relation to saddle fitting
- Safe handling of the horse
- Understanding and assessing movement and conformation for fitting
- Horse identification and maintaining records
- Principles of saddle fitting
- Practical back assessment
- Template taking
- Practical saddle fitting of a variety of horses and riders
