International dressage rider and daughter of Michael Owen, Gemma Owen, is starring in this year’s Love Island, which launched last night (6 June).
Gemma, 19, from Chester, represented Britain in last year’s European Junior Championships riding her own horse Sirius Black. She also runs luxury swimwear business, OG Swimwear.
“I like my boys like I like my horses: tall dark and lets me be the boss,” she laughed. “At the moment my horse and my three dogs are the only loves of my life.”
Gemma admitted she has a competitive nature and it “would be nice if she scored in the villa”.
“Sport has always been a big thing for me and my family,” she sad. “My dad was a professional football player. I’ve competed for Great Britain in dressage since I was 11-years-old. I’ve travelled all across Europe competing in big arenas in big competitions.
“I would say I’m very competitive. [When it comes to relationships] I will always go for what I want. But at the same time, I’m not going to mess up something for someone who is in a proper relationship or get in the way of a couple if they have a genuine connection.
“I wouldn’t do anything to another girl that I wouldn’t be happy with them doing to me,” she added.
She was coupled up with Liam Llewellyn, 22 from Newport, South Wales. The masters student said he was also competitive but he “tries to think about other people’s feelings at the same time”.
Love island started at 9pm Monday (6 June) on itv2 and itv hub. Episodes are available the following morning on Britbox.
