A foal born at a rescue centre is looking for a new name.

HAPPA took part in a multi-agency rescue of over 40 Welsh mountain ponies last year. The ponies’ owner had died and the equines were desperately in need of help.

All the ponies were taken to rescue centres across the UK, and six were brought to HAPPA’s Shores Hey Farm. Two of the mares were in-foal.

The Equine Care Team decided to name the rescued horses after their favourite snacks, and one of the in-foal mares, HAPPA Pom-Bear gave birth to HAPPA Mini-Cheddar.

Since then, the second mare has had her foal (pictured top and right), and she is now looking for a name.

The charity is inviting a business to sponsor the care and rehabilitation of the mare and foal, and in turn the mare and foal will be named after their company.

“It is always a worrying time when we rescue horses that are in foal on arrival at Shores Hey Farm,” said Rachael Wallace, Equine Rehabilitation Manager. “This is mainly due to a lack of history and sometimes the unhandled state of the mares that are ready to give birth.

“As soon as the mare came into isolation the Equine Care Team worked hard on ensuring that we were able to handle the mare, so that the veterinarian could complete all her health checks. This certainly did pay off and we welcomed a beautiful foal without any complications that is now thriving in our care.

“It is uplifting to see new-born foals around the stables, developing character and bringing a smile to our faces. All the pair need now are names to reflect their gorgeous look!”

Could your business be their sponsor?

Along with naming both the mare and foal, the HAPPA corporate sponsor will receive:

  • A glossy photo of the mare and foal
  • A blog with information about their character and needs
  • Sponsorship certificates to share around the workplace
  • Exclusive gifts
  • Personalised messages on special occasions
  • Regular updates via email, the HAPPA website, and by receiving the charity’s magazine and newsletters
  • Regular updates via email blogging
  • Access to the HAPPA Sponsorship Wish List
  • Corporate Sponsorship Cards enabling free access to visit the mare and foal at Shores Hey Farm
  • Personal greetings either in person or by video chat, can be timed for a staff meeting
  • Company logo presented on stable door and on HAPPA’s Corporate Sponsorship website page
  • A thank you message on HAPPA’s social media channels

Most importantly, the business will be helping HAPPA to give the mare and foal a second chance.
