A firefighter, social worker and end of life carer are among the winners of the Your Horse Key Worker Awards.
The awards were created to celebrate the heroic efforts of horse-loving frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic, and Your Horse offered a prize package for five winners, courtesy of our awards partners: Liverpool International Horse Show, Harry Hall One Club, Shaws Iberian Wines, Equisafety and Zebra Products. A further five nominees receive a bottle of cava.
The five winners of the full prize package are:
- Hayley Clayton, who retrained as a carer when her wedding business was shut down due to Covid-19 restrictions.
- Firefighter Rachael Wells whose extra duties on days off during the coronavirus pandemic involved driving ambulances for the NHS, delivering PPE to care homes and assisting with food parcels for the vulnerable.
- End of life carer Grace Bennett.
- Ambulance care assistant Dale Webb.
- Rachel Jones*, a social worker who has seen an increase in difficult cases, such as neglect and abuse, during the pandemic, completes the line-up.
The five key workers receiving a bottle of cava are:
- Senior recovery nurse Kathryn Parker-Beare
- Intensive care nurse Aimee Benn
- Community nurse Louise Burrell
- Pharmacy advisor Laura Bowcott
- Paediatric respiratory specialist Melanie Holland-Cooper
Interviews with each of the winners will feature in Your Horse’s June issue, on sale 24 June.
“We were delighted to receive so many nominations for people who have given so much to the UK over the last year,” said Your Horse’s editor, Aimi Clark.
“Every single one deserved to win, which made the judges’ decision particularly difficult. Myself and the whole team are pleased to be able to give something back to so many special people.”
The prizes included in the full prize package were a pair of silver tickets to the Liverpool International Horse Show, a Masta fleece rug from Harry Hall One Club, a bottle of Caballo Oscuro Cava Brut from Shaws Iberian Wines, a pair of Uvex sportstyle riding gloves from Zebra Products and an air waistcoat from Equisafety.
