Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS horse feed brand, has appointed Fiona Cayzer as its new general manager.

Fiona, who joined Mars Horsecare in 2013 and was previously its chief financial officer, will take over the role from Gordon Smith, who is retiring at the end of 2024.

“The progress made by Horsecare under Gordon’s leadership has been remarkable,” said Fiona.

“The opportunity to continue this progress is a huge honour. We have an incredible business, home to great brands and exceptional associates. Together, we will continue to deliver our purpose of making a better world for horses.”

During her time at Mars Horsecare, Fiona has helped drive profitability, delivered digital tools, and transformed the finance team.

Future plans

In her new role, Fiona hopes to continue the progress made in Horsecare in recent years, focusing on executing and evolving Horsecare’s strategy and continuing to make a better world for horses.

Fiona enjoys developing people and driving digitalisation and hopes to focus on these two areas of passion during her tenure.

She will be based at the Mars Horsecare headquarters in Milton Keynes but will take responsibility for both the UK and US businesses.

“Mars Horsecare is an incredible business with iconic brands, such as SPILLERS,” said Gordon, who joined Mars Horsecare in 2003 and was promoted from marketing and sales director to general manager in 2020.

“I’m hugely proud of the progress we’ve made across the portfolio in recent years and especially of all our people, who I’d like to thank for their skill and commitment.

“Fiona is a brilliant choice as the next GM, and I’m sure will accelerate progress in 2025 and beyond with the support of a highly performing leadership group.”

Throughout his time as general manager and with the support of the Mars Horsecare team, Gordon has delivered strong growth, winning in the category and gaining market share.

As well as owning SPILLERS, Mars Horsecare also owns the US based horse feed brand BUCKEYE.
