This month The National Stud will be reopening for behind-the-scenes guided tours of its 500-acre Newmarket site.
The National Stud, which is a centre of excellence for horse breeding, is the only thoroughbred stud farm in the UK which allows public tours.
During guided tours, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the history of the stud, witness the work that goes into producing future champions, and meet its residents, including stallions Stradivarius, winner of 18 group races, and Bradsell, 2024 European champion sprinter.
Visitors will have the chance to visit the stallion unit and learn about the day-to-day routines of a working stud. They will also be able to see the yards and paddocks where legends like Lord Windermere and The Tin Man reside.

Tourism partner
Tours last 90 minutes and are bookable through the stud’s tourism partner Discover Newmarket.
Knowledgeable Discover Newmarket guides will lead the tours which explore the site by both minibus and on foot.
Tours are available on Fridays, Saturdays, Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays between March and October. Tickets cost £16.50 for adults and £5 for children.
Further opportunities
The National Stud is also part of several other tours from Discover Newmarket which explore the famous town and its horseracing connections – it is home to 74 trainers, 3,000 racehorses and two racecourses.
The Newmarket Experience is a half day tour which takes you behind the scenes at a racing yard and lets you watch morning exercise before visiting the National Stud.
The Ultimate Newmarket Experience gives you a more in depth introduction to horseracing in Newmarket and extends the experiences found in the Newmarket Experience as well as including lunch at the National Horseracing museum.
