An equestrian training and development centre in Cumbria has unveiled a new Rider Development Programme aimed at supporting talented horse riders in the area who are looking to take the next step in their equestrian careers.
Harness Change, a Community Interest Company dedicated to equestrian education, confidence-building, and alternative education programmes in the South Lakes, will provide expert coaching and career development opportunities to help riders progress in competition, coaching, or professional equestrian roles.
Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to apply for the Rider Development Programme by submitting a short video of them riding along with a personal statement which explains why they should be selected and what the opportunity would mean to them.
Successful applicants will receive four ridden coaching sessions with Zara Myers, 2024 British Horse Society (BHS) Coach of the Year and ceo at Harness Change, and a personalised progress planning session with Zara, where they will develop a three-year strategy for success in their chosen equestrian path.
Supporting local talent
“We are committed to nurturing equestrian talent here in Cumbria. There are so few opportunities for ambitious riders in this area, and many feel they have no choice but to relocate to progress in their careers,” said Zara.
“This programme is designed to give them structured support, expert coaching, and a clear pathway for progression right here at home.
“Whether they are starting their competition journey, looking to build confidence, or considering an equine career, we want to help them succeed.”
Harness Change is seeking corporate sponsors, funding partners and support from local businesses for the Rider Development Programme.
