Osberton is to award two trophies in honour longstanding eventing supporter Michael Foljambe. The Foljambe Bowl and Telstar Trophy will be part of the new national three-day classes at Osberton International Horse Trials (28 September-1 October).

Running alongside the existing CCI2*L and CCI3*L at Osberton this year will be new National Novice and Intermediate ‘trophy classes’. To pay tribute to the late Mr Foljambe, known simply as Mr ‘F’ to many, organisers BEDE Events will present the Telstar Trophy to the National Novice, and the Foljambe Bowl to the National Intermediate winner.

Mr Foljambe’s equestrian legacy began when he opened the doors of his Osberton estate to the eventing community in the 1960’s and continued to be one of the sport’s most dedicated benefactors for over 50-years. He set the event on the path to being one of the most popular events in the British calendar, and the highlight of his tenure as event organiser came when Osberton played a crucial role as selection event for the 1976 Olympics.

Telstar was Michael’s Advanced horse – who was “a big quality, Irish bred, Range Rover of a horse” with whom Michael competed regularly up to Advanced level and the horse on which he used to ‘test drive’ the three-day event cross-country course before the event every year.

Mr Foljambe passed away in August 2021. “He will continue to be fondly remembered by many, for his eccentric ways, his devout support of eventing and love of Osberton,” said a spokesman for the event.
