The RSPCA has teamed up with The University of Bristol, Human Behaviour Change for Life, and University College Dublin to explore the current equine welfare crisis in England and Wales.
A survey is being shared as part of the research project, and horse or donkey owners are invited to take part, as well as any person involved in equines through work or recreation. The initial survey is intended to establish information surrounding the current equine population in England and Wales and will be open until 31 January.
Other issues the researchers plan to illuminate are breeding practices, availability of appropriate places to keep horses and patterns in abandonment.
The research team seek the views of as many different equestrians as possible, from a variety of different disciplines and sectors. Professionals such as vets, farriers, yard owners and welfare officers are encouraged to take part, as well as horse owners.
