Your Horse magazine’s January 2022 issue has received an award for its cover, which featured a beautiful chestnut in the snow.
Steve Brown, Retail Director at Kelsey Media, and Market Force chose the winning cover and complemented its eye-catching design and enticing content, which helped the issue fly off the shelves.
Editor Aimi Clark and freelance designer Geoff Johnson both won the £100 prize.
“[It’s] a fantastic looking cover with bold, standout cover lines, positioned well to allow the title to be clearly seen on the newsstand,” said Steve. “A strong competition and topical subjects that clearly hit a nerve.”
The magazine caught readers’ attention, with it receiving a 11 percent year on year increase and a 28 percent increase compared to the previous three issues average sale.
Aimi said it was “really exciting” to win the front cover award.
“This cover’s design had a slightly different feel for us, with a textured snowy background rather than a scene, which at the time we felt lifted the beautiful chestnut horse’s head off the page and also fitted perfectly with the time of year — white snow for winter,” she said.
“So it’s nice to know that those instincts were right. It also helped of course that my team came together to produce some really great content on the inside, which led to such strong cover lines, which means this is a real team effort.
“That this cover had a really good impact on the newsstand with a significant increase in sales is exciting too. Ultimately, that is the goal!”
