I’ve become a little picky about what breeches I wear. I have four pairs that I absolutely love for everyday use from two different brands. Top of my list when I’m choosing breeches is comfort in and out of the saddle. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure about trying a new brand as I know which brands suit my shape and I’ve got a bit stuck in my ways. However, since trying the AD Performance breeches these have now leapt to the top of my list of favourite breeches.
Fit
These breeches are true to size — mine are size 14 and they fit perfectly. The cut is really flattering; they aren’t skintight and they’re not too baggy either. There are other little features that make these breeches stand out from the rest. Inside the waistband there’s an internal grip which holds the breeches in place all day long – so no more pulling them up countless times during the day.
The length of leg is good too. I’m 5ft 10in and some breeches come up a little short on me. These have a knitted sock at the bottom that’s close fitting, not at all bulky inside your riding boots and again helps to hold the breeches in place.
Comfort
Because the fit is so good it also makes them really comfortable to wear. The material is lightweight and stretches in all the right places to ensure you’re always comfortable whether you’re doing flatwork, jumping or chores around the yard.
There are no annoying and often uncomfortable seams across the knee. You can easily bend your knees without any restriction at all. The subtle silicone knee grips are all you need. I usually opt for a full seat, but still feel nicely secure in these.
Performance
I’ve been riding in these breeches and wearing them around the yard for the last three months and they’ve been washed a lot. They haven’t faded or lost any of their shape. In fact, they look like new and they dry really quickly.
Final verdict
All in all I’m really impressed with these breeches – there’s nothing I don’t like about them. The price tag is on the high side compared to some other breeches available on the market, but in my opinion they’re so good at what I need them to do that they’re well worth the money.
