When my Wintec Miracle long girth arrived in the post I have to confess that I was sceptical! Can a girth really be as good as it sounds for less than £70? Its description on the Wintec website promises a “miraculous” level of comfort for your horse, with innovative CAIR cushions in the centre to alleviate pressure on the sternum.
There are also a whole host of other features that make it sound amazing and I couldn’t wait to give it a try.
Given that my gypsy cob Pippin is a round barrel and has a fair amount of natural padding already, I wasn’t sure if I would notice the difference compared to the leather anatomical girth that I had been using.
Alas, it quickly became apparently that yes I would — and Pips would be very happy with her new belt too.
First impressions
My first impressions of the Wintec Miracle girth after unwrapping it were very good. It is soft, flexible and feels very lightweight. The material (which is described as being anti-galling) has a texture which is waffle like. The buckles and straps are nicely finished, and the girth is very soft and padded.
It gave me the overall impression that it would be comfortable to put on and use.
Fit
The first time I put it on my mare, I found that the Wintec Miracle girth came up slightly longer when compared to my old girth. I think this is due to it being slightly padded (due to its CAIR air system) and so when I tightened it up it was one hole higher on my saddle straps.
As a flat-backed cob, Pips has no girth groove at all and no withers either. She is like a table! So I was a little concerned that my saddle would slip back and move when I got on. However, it didn’t — and we did an eight-mile hack on the first day of wearing it with any concerns.
Even though the girth got covered in mud and debris (after cantering across a field which I thought wouldn’t be quite as wet as it was!), it didn’t budge at all while I was riding. Other than a mud ‘tide’ mark when removing it, the girth has not rubbed either.
Pips is fully clipped and white, and I find that her pink skin can sometimes be sensitive, so she has been a good tester for the Wintec Miracle girth.

Performance
I’ve been putting this girth through its paces for just over a month and it still looks brand new. Despite me throwing all sorts of tasks at it, it’s not let me down. As yet I’ve not gone back to using my old girth — and I probably won’t.
Pips seems super comfortable with its fit and hasn’t pulled any faces at me when I’m doing it up. It is super easy to wash and dry (big points for me given how wet and muddy it has been in the UK recently) and my saddle didn’t even slip while arena eventing or riding 10m canter circles.
This is no mean feat on a flat-backed, round barrel of a cob!
The Wintec Miracle girth is the first synthetic girth I’ve used for a while. I really like the fact that during the past month and after all the Somerset mud, ice and winter weather it is so easy to hose off and looks as good as new. One wipe and a jet with the hose and you’re done.
All that aside, the most important thing is that Pips feels comfortable and has gone well in it. I’ve also not had a single saddle slippage.

Final thoughts
Overall, I think this is a very nicely finished girth that is light and comfortable for the horse to wear. It has no seams on it to rub the horse’s sides and it is very comfortable to handle, adjust and use. The finish is very good and it hasn’t shown any signs of wear so far.
