TWO LUCKY READERS and their families will be treated to a VIP day out at Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials (14-17 September), arguably the most prestigious CCI4* competition in the eventing calendar.
The three-day event, set in the spectacular grounds of Blenheim Palace, attracts many of the best riders in the world for the CCI4*-L, while the prestigious eight- and nine-year-old class is the one that every rider with an up-and-coming star of the future wants to win.
With the Paris Olympics just around the corner, many riders will be using Blenheim as a preparation run. The challenge of the cross-country, which traverses the spectacular Capability Brown-created parkland, isn’t to be underestimated.
In the 33 years since the event’s inception only eight riders have managed to win the top honours more than once. These include British stars William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell and Piggy March, who are all still competing at the top of their game and will probably have starters at this year’s event.
Alongside high-octane international eventing is a packed schedule of grassroots action which includes the popular Pony Club and Riding Club Team Eventer Challenge and the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Southern Regional Dressage Championships in which amateur riders and ex-racehorses have their chance to shine on Blenheim’s hallowed turf.
Alongside the sporting action, Blenheim is also famous for its top notch shopping experience, with views of the palace down every aisle of the tradestand village. Exhibitors range from tack shops and clothing stalls to horseboxes, jewellery and skincare.
There will also be dedicated food and drink vendors showcasing a great range of tasty treats for everyone to enjoy.
