Five horses and riders will contest the SEIB Search for a Star British Riding Clubs final at Your Horse Live this week.
The championship will take place in the SEIB Main Arena at 9.45am on Friday 8 September. It follows the finals for in-hand veterans, plaited horses and plaited ponies, and the in-hand mountain and moorland and natives and traditionals.
Here are the finalists:
Dream Shadow
Rider Kate Smith has owned this dun gelding, known as Oreo at home, for nine years. She says he can be tricky, but help from their instructor Lisa Street has made a big difference.
Kate is a North Mymms Riding Club member and enjoys showing and jumping Oreo both locally and on Riding Club teams.
Greenvale Don Legend
Owner/rider Rosa Cartwright hails from Cardiff and is a member of the Mynydd Riding Club. She has owned ‘Donny’, a Hanoverian/Welsh Part-Bred, since he was a yearling.
They started showing about three years ago, after Rosa’s instructor recommended the Search for a Star series.
Rosa is an account manager for a brewery.
Hendrefawr Razamatazz
Cumbria Riding Club member Hayley Fell has owned this 14-year-old Appaloosa mare, who is known as India at home, for two years.
Together they enjoy jumping and mountain rides, as well as showing.
Hayley works in the education department in a prison.
Pendancer Bilbo Baggins
Owner/rider Hayley Dolby is a member of Aspley Guise Riding Club in Hertfordshire.
She says 17-year-old ‘Billy’ is the perfect Riding Club horse — “he’s not quite a small hunter and not quite a riding horse” — and she has owned him since he was weaned at six months old.
Spinway Colm
Daisy Beards and ‘Colm’ are the most local horse and rider combination in the competition, being members of Stoneleigh Riding Club.
The pair also compete in eventing, riding club competitions, prelim dressage and showjumping.
Colm is a 14.2hh Connemara whom Daisy, an agriculture student at Hartpury University, has owned for about seven years.
